Canada Day is Wednesday, July 1 and there are lots of activities to enjoy across the city. Some City of Kitchener facilities and programs may be impacted by the holiday, so review the facility hours as you plan your celebration. 

The City of Kitchener is reminding residents to keep safety in mind this Canada Day and exercise caution with private fireworks displays. The City's Fireworks and Firecrackers Bylaw was updated in 2025, so residents are asked to re-familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations for fireworks in advance of the holiday.  

The City of Kitchener has been made aware of individuals reaching out to local businesses falsely claiming to be City employees.

In this scam, fraudsters contact small business owners via email, claiming to represent the City's Special Events team, offering "exclusive" vendor opportunities for the Christkindl Market. The email uses specific details about the event and links to legitimate City webpages to dupe the recipient into sending money. City of Kitchener staff have contacted Waterloo Region Police Services (WRPS) to alert them to this scam and to prevent community members from being taken advantage of.

The City of Kitchener has once again been recognized for excellence in financial reporting, receiving the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting for its 2024 annual financial report from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

The Roos Island Music Series returns for another year with two months of free concerts in Victoria Park showcasing some of Kitchener's incredible local musicians.

The City of Kitchener is inviting residents and visitors to kick off summer with two vibrant, back-to-back events in downtown Kitchener: the brand-new East Coast Kitchen Party on June 30 and Canada Day celebrations on July 1. 

On the night of June 23, Kitchener Fire Department crews responded to a vehicle fire in the driveway of a residential property on Coopershawk Street. On arrival, firefighters found a vehicle fully involved in the driveway, with fire spreading to the garage and causing significant damage to a second vehicle parked inside.

The City of Kitchener is showcasing its Female Firefighter in Training (FFIT) program this week, from June 23-26, at Waterloo Region Emergency Services Training and Research Centre, 1001 Erbs Rd., Waterloo.

This can include solids, liquids, or gases. Common spill materials include concrete, construction debris, paint, cooking oil, gasoline, or diesel.
