    Get ready, Kitchener—it’s time to celebrate, connect, and make a difference for children and youth in our community!   • Ontario’s Big City Mayors meet with provincial and federal leaders on housing and infrastructure

    Pickering, Ontario - Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic recently joined Ontario’s Big City Mayors (OBCM) to meet with federal and provincial representatives and discuss shared priorities for Ontario cities. 

  • City of Kitchener hosts Sri Lankan delegation for international exchange

    The City of Kitchener welcomed a delegation of municipal leaders from Sri Lanka from April 20 to 21, 2026, as part of the Partnerships for Municipal Innovation – Women in Local Leadership (PMI‑WILL) initiative. The visit is part of a global program funded by Global Affairs Canada and led by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), aimed at strengthening gender equality in local governance and improving the quality of life for women and girls.

     

  • City prepares for technology-driven future with Digital Kitchener 2.0 strategy

    The City of Kitchener launched Digital Kitchener 2.0, the 2026-2030 strategy for a people-centred digital city. This future-focused plan will guide Kitchener’s leadership role in the new digital era through goals, focus areas and actions that will further our community’s role as an innovator and leader in the digital and technology spaces.  

  • Kitchener Fire Department: Major incident report – April 20 (Strasburg Rd.)
    Kitchener Fire crews responded to a fire at a commercial property on Strasburg Rd at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 20.  
      
    The fire appears to have originated in the in an oven and extended through the ventilation system.
    The fire is not currently deemed suspicious.  Damage is estimated at approximately $50,000. There are not structural concerns with the building at this time.  
    No injuries of staff or firefighters were reported.
    Traffic and the GRT were also impacted due to the closure of Strasburg Rd for approximately one hour (required for hydrant access). The road has since been reopened.

    National Volunteer Week, April 19 – 25, celebrates the everyday ways that people across the city selflessly give of their time, skills and energy to strengthen our community, support neighbours, and help build inclusive communities through shared action. 

  • Kitchener Golf will soon open ‘fore’ the season

    It’s a sure sign of spring when the golf courses open for the season. Kitchener Golf’s ground crews have been busy preparing for several weeks, and the City of Kitchener is excited to announce that Rockway and Doon Valley Golf Courses will open next Friday, April 24 (weather permitting). 

  • Speaker series event explores how neurodivergent minds make better businesses

    The City of Kitchener, in collaboration with the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre (WRSBC), hosts a free monthly speaker series called SDG Talks. The series explores the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and how we can create a more socially and environmentally sustainable planet. This year’s theme, Purpose and Profit, focuses on helping businesses embed sustainability into their core operations and strengthen their bottom line while creating meaningful community impact.
