Francis Green redesign
We are redesigning Francis Green to better serve the growing downtown community. The renewal project will create a vibrant, welcoming space that celebrates our industrial heritage – and offers vibrant spaces for play and gathering.

Glendale Park
We are improving Glendale Park to replace the existing play structure, add new seating, create a new asphalt trail connecting Glen Road to Rex Drive, and upgrade the existing asphalt sports court. Construction will begin in spring 2026.
Huron Natural Area stewardship plan
We are developing a 10-year plan for the stewardship and ecological restoration of the Huron Natural Area. Together with community members, including local Indigenous communities, we will identify a vision, stewardship needs and actions to preserve the area for future generations.

Mausser Park
We are improving the playground at Mausser Park to create a new play space with expanded play area, improved seating, pathway access, curbing and mulch surfacing. As part of these improvements, the two existing playgrounds will be removed in spring 2026 and consolidated into one new, expanded playground in the location of the existing upper park. When the playgrounds are consolidated, the existing lawn will be expanded into the location of the former lower playground.
McLennan Park and Lions Park Master Plans
McLennan Park and Lions Park are important places where people in our community gather, play and connect. We are updating these parks to better serve the community by addressing infrastructure, accessibility and long-term recreational needs.

Montgomery Park court improvements
We are upgrading the multi-use courts at Montgomery Park to better meet the needs of the local community. Community input on two draft concepts will help us develop the final design for the sports courts.

Stormwater projects in parks
We have many stormwater projects underway in parks across the city to help improve water quality and reduce flood risks. Explore park-specific projects using the links below or visit our stormwater developments and improvements page for information on other stormwater projects in Kitchener.

Upper Canada Park
We are expanding and improving the use of Upper Canada Park. Phase 1, completed in 2019, re-built the park to create an efficient “wagon wheel” sportsfield layout and bring in new park activities like a full basketball court. A skate park was added in 2021.
The second phase of development is currently underway, taking place in 2025 and 2026. This will complete final improvements to the park, including adding lighting, public washrooms, shade structures and seating; expanding and renovating the parking lot; and improving park signage, among other improvements.
Learn more on our Upper Canada Park page.
Victoria Park Master Plan
We’re updating the Victoria Park Master Plan, the guiding document for public and city priorities within Victoria Park. We’ll review the park's existing conditions and amenities, analyze how it is being used and learn how it can better support the community in the future. This will help us develop a 10-year plan for improving, maintaining and operating the park.
As part of our analysis, we’re installing visual sensors throughout the park to help us learn how the park is being used and how we can improve the park to serve you better. The sensors use vision-based technology to capture count, speed and movement data for park users. The system does not collect personal identifying information and does not store video files.

Westheights Park Natural Area restoration
We're developing a plan for the ecological management, restoration, and stewardship of the Westheights Park Natural Area (Westheights Park).

Wilson Park dog park
We are adding a new public dog park at Wilson Park. Construction will begin in the spring of 2026 and is anticipated to be completed in late summer.
